  • Pearl Jam: Rock Band Canceled? Vocal Harmonies Tell Tale

Posted on January 21st, 2011 Shawn 2 comments

While doing a regular search of the Rock Band downloadable content page on Wikipedia, I noticed a new column titled “Add’l Rock Band 3 Features”. Upon sorting, I stumbled on a shocking bit of news. Most of the Pearl Jam DLC released between March and September 2009 has “Backing vocals”.

As a test, I fired up Rock Band 3 on Xbox 360 and confirmed, most Pearl Jam songs have 2-part harmonies. This is interesting news. Long before the release of Rock Band 3, Green Day: Rock Band, and The Beatles: Rock Band; the content authors at Harmonix were charting vocal harmonies for Pearl Jam’s Ten album (followed up by Backspacer).

This is a nice surprise for Rock Band vocalists, but what does it mean for conspiracy theorists? Since the charting was done relatively early in the Rock Band 2 life-cycle, which never had vocal harmony capabilities, there had to be a purpose for these harmonies.

  • Pearl Jam’s Backspacer Album and DLC Next Week!

Posted on September 18th, 2009 Shawn 1 comment

For a first in Rock Band DLC history, a full album DLC is to be released, day & date with the album in stores. Also, it’s coming in an unusual Sunday delivery, versus the traditional Tuesday delivery. Plus, it’s the super-famous Pearl Jam. So, it’s no slouch of a week for Rock Band DLC.

Let’s not forget that a few short weeks after Beatlemania 2.0 begins, we will be treated to a rare full album DLC:  Backspacer by Pearl Jam.  Here’s the first single, The Fixer (via YouTube).  This would be the first time, I believe, that DLC comes out on a Sunday.  Here’s hoping it’s a double DLC week.

  • Pearl Jam and Harmonix Collaborate, Need Our Help

Posted on May 11th, 2009 Shawn No comments

We got word today from a Harmonix press release that Pearl Jam and Harmonix are teaming up for a joint effort, which will focus around live Pearl Jam songs. The announcement is calling on fans of the band to help pick the best live songs to make the cut for this new “thing”, whatever it is.

Based on the wording, it does not sound like it will be DLC, but something of a standalone game. See the press release below, and leave comments on your thoughts.

For me, the Ten album on DLC is all the Pearl Jam I will ever need. I would also likely buy Versus on DLC, but that’s about it. I’m not much of a hard core Pearl Jam fan, but do like their first 3 years of material.

Default Pearl Jam Rock Band Project Coming Next Year

    Hey gang,
Here’s an interesting press release that I thought you may want to check out. Read on.

We need your help! Ten Club, MTV Games and Harmonix’s Rock Band, and Rhapsody are teaming up to let you, Pearl Jam’s biggest fans, help us choose the best versions of Pearl Jam live songs that will be presented for the first-ever fan voted set list for a forthcoming Rock Band project.

Your expertise will help us determine which of these versions is worthy of making the cut. Just click on the songs you like and open up the Rhapsody playlist widget for that particular song. Once you have the widget open, listen to the version you think is the best. The versions that are played the most times will be deemed the best versions and will then be entered into consideration to make the final “set list” vote.

Note: Those of you who aren’t Rhapsody subscribers will have to go to here to get your free trial subscription so you can use the play list.

You’ve got your work cut out for you.

I’ll link to an official discussion thread as soon as word starts to get around. So get posting!
