  • 11/5 RB: DLC – Early Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Joan Jett

Rock-Band-2-DLC-NirvanaSeems I’m now zero for four on DLC predictions, but I am sure that my random guesses are as good as anyone else’s.  This coming week is not going to be Weezer’s Raditude (that is a bit of good news and bad news), but instead its a return of two Rock Band favorites, Nirvana and the Foo Fighters, and a single track from Joan Jett.

Both Nirvana and the Foo Fighters are no strangers to Rock Band DLC enthusiasts.  Both acts are featured on the RB1 and RB2 discs, and each have had their very own DLC packs of additional music.  This is actually the third Foo Fighters pack, and don’t forget that you can also get their entire CD “The Color and the Shape” from the RB Marketplace.  Nirvana’s tracks bring their total to 12 songs on the platform, and the Foo Fighters to 24 songs.  Two of the Foo Fighter songs, “Word Forward” and “Wheels” are brand new songs, the others are two of the most requested songs in the Foo Fighter catalogue.  I have to think that we are near the end of that particular catalogue.

Joan Jett also gets a nod with her track “Fake Friends“, the first track to her follow up 1983 album entitled “Album”.   Not familiar with the track?  This was the second song I’ve previewed for RB:DLC that I had to press the STOP button before the end (that honor goes to Just Kait’s U Suck).   For starters, the main guitar riff is the same riff they teach you at day one of Guitar lessons.  It contains the lyric “You don’t lose when you lose fake friends.”  It doesn’t help that the special effects they used in the video consist of a black and white photo simply falling over in its own frame, possibly due to boredom or embarrassment.   I think a better choice for Ms. Jett would have been “I Love Rock’n’Roll” or simply to not release any more Joan Jett after the fiasco that is “Bad Reputation”.

The tracks will be available on Tuesday, November 5.  Point costs for each pack are 560 for the Foo Fighters, 440 for Nirvana, 160 for Joan Jett or a-la-carte tracks.  Personally I cannot pass up the Nirvana tracks, I used to put on their “Bleach” album and listen to it from start to finish.  If I was making you a mixtape, “Blew” would be on it, and you would love it.

  • Some More Nirvana Rock Band DLC Drama

Posted on October 21st, 2008 Shawn No comments

Ok, the Rock Band forums are starting to light up.  Appears that both Drain You and Smells Like Teen Spirit are listed in the Rock Band (in-game) Store on NIRVANA PACK 01.  Check the photo (click the photo for full size).

We already have Drain You, which came on the Rock Band 2 disc…and well, we have already talk about Teen Spirit missing.  Looks like a bit of a screw up here.  But, just so you know, there is NO Teen Spirit in the pack, that is confirmed by people that picked it up early today.

So, that’s what we have for you.

  • Rock Band not Releasing Nirvana’s Biggest Hits

Posted on October 21st, 2008 Shawn No comments

Well, it’s a year in the making. The rumors, stories, and myths of Nevermind actually showing up on Rock Band are over, well somewhat.

As of today, we now have all but three tracks available for DLC. “Which 3 are missing?”, you ask. Only the three big hits: Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, and Come As You Are.

Here’s what we have learned, through somewhat official channels. The communications folks at Harmonix have stated the reason for the three missing tracks.

    1. Come As You Are and Lithium are going to be paired up in the near future with Heart Shaped Box (from In Utero) for a DLC 3-pack.
    2. Now, the supposed bad news. Looks like the master tracks for Smells Like Teen Spirit are “missing” (i.e. stolen, lost, or destroyed).

For the track pack, “Ok that’s cool, but really should have been released at the same time as the rest of the album”, in my opinion. For Teen Spirit, really? Do you believe this story? I like some of the theories going around, like Courtney Love has them stashed somewhere (complements of Maki), or that Harmonix is holding out for Rock Band 3.

    What say you?

In the meantime, get ready for some Nirvana bliss, with today’s DLC. Pick all 7 tracks up on Rock Band DLC today for $10.99 (880 Microsoft Points) or $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) per track. Also, support our site, and pick up the MP3’s in our store for only 99¢ a piece or $8.99 for the whole album.
