311 New Album and Tour Dates Announced

What up 311 fans! I got the email today that the new album, Uplifter, has been given a street date, followed by the typical summer tour of outdoor arenas. In typical 311-stylee, they will drop the album at the beginning of the summer (June 2) and hit the road for 29 U.S. stops (including my stomping grounds of Mansfield, MA) [Georgie, are we going?].

Ziggy Marley and The Expendables will be opening for 311 on the road.

I’ve heard the first single from the album, and it’s typical new school 311; reggae beats, melodic guitars, with mono-vocals, rap-stylings, and soothing harmonies. I’m hoping we get some hard-edged stuff too. Overall, I expect the album to sound much like their last three albums. All very similar in sound. Good, but not Earth shattering.

Are You Ready to Preorder The Beatles: Rock Band?

We got the email announcement early this morning from Harmonix; the website for preordering The Beatles: Rock Band game is live and ready to take anywhere from $60 to $250 are ready to take your hard-earned cash. the fab 4 said it best, “The best things in life are free
But you can keep ‘em for the birds and bees
Now give me money”.

Will you be preordering? I have all intentions to pick up the game on day one, but I don’t think I will preorder. I did preorder Rock Band 2 though, because I had some fear that it would sell out on day one. For The Beatles, if it sells out (which I do not think it will), then “Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on”.

Rock Band: Unplugged Set List

Alright, PSP users (this excludes me), we now have a leak of the setlist for RB: Unplugged (the first portable version of Rock Band). The ESRB slipped the leak (and we thank them for that).

Keep in mind, that Harmonix has said that several RB: Unplugged songs will eventually be released for Rock Band DLC (Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3). Even if you have no interest in the upcoming game, check out the set list and see what songs will likely be available for Rock Band 2 in the next 4-6 months.

The list below covers about half of what’s expected on the RB: Unplugged disc, coming out June 9.

I will be giving most of these songs a listen.  Why you ask? I’m pretty sure I know most of them, and think I may love them. Chances are, I will be buying something next week. I’m not happy that all but Franz is at full single song pricing, but I’m very interested in taking a listen to Allmans, Luscious Jackson, and Prong.

Here’s some background if you don’t know all these bands. Luscious Jackson contains the original drummer of the Beastie Boys, from way back in the day (early 80′s). Prong was a mid-late 90′s prog-metal group, with pseudo-NIN sounds. I really was into them for about a year on their Rude Awakening album. Alien Ant Farm, tell me you don’t know their cover of Smooth Criminal? That’s an immediate purchase and will be a great party song. Franz, Allmans, and Distillers I will have to check out the songs.
