    Rock Band Drums

I have been quietly working on unlocking the “AN-I-MAL” achievement on Rock Band for Xbox 360. I’m on the 2nd to last city for the drum solo tour, Los Angeles, and have completed one of the 5 songs. It was Foreplay/Long Time (with 5 stars I might add).

My goal is to complete this tour before September 14 (the release of Rock Band 2). I have a total of nine songs remaining and 20 days to make this happen.

    The remaining songs:
“(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” Blue Öyster Cult
    “Cherub Rock” Smashing Pumpkins
    “Enter Sandman” Metallica
    “Highway Star” Deep Purple
    “Flirtin’ with Disaster” Molly Hatchet
    “Next to You” The Police
“Run to the Hills” Iron Maiden
    “Tom Sawyer” Rush
“Won’t Get Fooled Again” The Who

Tonight there will be no Xbox Live Jam Session and no DLC for me, as I’m poised to slay The Reaper, bash Cherub Rock, and violate the Sandman.  If time allows, I’d like to Flirt With Disaster before I call it a night.

I know for sure that 5 of the remaining songs are going to attempt to stab me in the eye like a hot poker fresh from the fire pit of hell.  Those demonous tracks are Highway Star, Next to You, Run to the Hills, Tom Sawyer, and Won’t Get Fooled Again.  These songs slowed me down on the hard tour, and no doubt will bring me to my knees with tears in my eyes before the week is out.

If you have any tips, please share.

That’s it for now, see you online.
    Put your gamertag here too.

    • I have the same goal as you and I’m at the same tier you are. I can beat 3 of the 5 tracks but strangely enough, I can’t even get through the Foreplay section of Foreplay/Long Time. I need to work on the timing of my foot since I get off beat by a little bit and it’s game over… I’m sure once I get through that I can finish Long Time since it’s a fairly standard song and I’ve done well on all the other Boston DLC. Don’t Fear The Reaper is the other killer in that group. I’m at 100% until I get to the rolls of death during the guitar solo and then I’m finished, even after activating a full overdrive once I get in the red. What’s really strange about being stumped on those lower-tier songs is that I can beat Tom Sawyer, Next To You and Flirtin’ With Disaster pretty easily when I try them in quickplay.

As for tips, Next To You is all about surviving that opening section. It’s a fairly standard beat after that, then save your overdrive for the 2nd time that pattern comes up (during the bridge, I believe.) Highway Star is all about endurance and Tom Sawyer is about not letting the timing throw you off — especially the bass kicks. As for the others, well, cross your fingers, especially with Run To The Hills. I still have trouble on that one, even in Hard mode.

    • So Maki, how goes the drumming battle? Saw you on XBLive last night fighting the Reaper along with me. Any luck?

As far as mastering Foreplay, remember the tough part is in 3/4 time. Once you can get down a fast 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3 rhythm, then BOOM! You nailed it.

    • I keep dying at around 65% on Reaper… I just can’t get the kicks down along with the rolls. The worst part is I get near the end and I can see the rolls finishing… Only to fail before I can get back to the verse. Practice mode showed me there’s an extra snare hit in the pattern once the verse is back, so I may have to get that one down before I even attempt a regular run again. So I gave up and went back to playing DLC. Ended up beating Kool Thing which satisfied me enough for the night, considering that’s another final-tier song to cross off my list!

    • Kool Thing. I just heard that song for the first time last week. Never bought the DLC, since I’m not much of a Sonic Youth fan. But, now knowing there’s a challenge in it, I might cough up the 160 MS points and grab it.

Plus, I have a party coming up, and one of the people coming over has asked for as much Sonic Youth as I can get my hands on.

    • It is a LOT of fun to play on drums. It’s one of those songs that seems really daunting first time but with familiarity it gets much better. It also fits my style, I tend to like songs with quick hits on alternating pads (like Wave of Mutilation or a lot of the Pixies’ stuff on Doolittle) and this song has a LOT of that. Not crazy about the song, to be honest, but I love playing it, if that makes any sense!

It was also in Guitar Hero 3, for whatever that’s worth.
