Thanks to Xbox360Fanboy.com, I wake up to this mornings boner!
Update: Apologizes, the early hours seem to have hit us. Rock Band 2 is scheduled to release on the Xbox 360 this September with a PS3 release later in the year. Other platforms have not been confirmed at the time of the press release.
Are you sitting down? Today MTV, Harmonix and EA surprised no one by confirming suspicion that Rock Band 2 was in the works. Yes, the worst-kept secret of sequels since Microsoft announced Halo 3 is scheduled to hit this September on the Xbox 360 PS3 and other yet-to-be named platforms.
In an interview with IGN, Harmonix lead designer Dan Teasdale spilled some carefully worded beans on the sequel. Most importantly Harmonix confirmed all Rock Band downloadable content will also work in Rock Band 2 and Teasdale also teased that new features are planned “that let you play your DLC in different ways.” Teasdale also states that new downloadable content will be released for the Rock Band platform when Rock Band 2 is released, meaning you can download all DLC and play on either version. Also, the dreaded profile switching issue in the original is being examined and corrected for a more streamlined experience.
While Teasdale also confirms new instruments are in development for Rock Band 2 they are only receiving more reliable and cosmetic changes, meaning your old Rock Band sets will still work as well. While Teasdale doesn’t confirm some of the questions posed to him, he does tease at the possibility of and online World Tour and multiple users on vocals instruments.
Jump in for a look at the new Stratocaster guitar as well as the top ten bands Teasdale hinted might make it onto the Rock Band 2 retail disc.

Well, if you were looking for some great DLC for Rock Band this coming week, think again. My excitement over getting Motley Crüe (see post from earlier in the week), has been redüced to a 3-pack of crap, plus some unknown piece of dookie (and no, I’m not talking about Green Day…..unfortünately).
Straight from the horses ass, I mean mouth.
The songs listed in the following section have been confirmed for release by Harmonix.
“Down at the Whiskey” Mötley Crüe Cruefestb July 1, 2008
“Time is Running Out” Papa Roach Cruefestb July 1, 2008
“Who’s Going Home With You Tonight” Trapt Cruefestb July 1, 2008
“Promised Land” Vesuvius Singlea July 1, 2008

Folks, looks like we have a PS2 convert. Welcome A.J. (or as I like to call him, Large Shrimp) to the mix. Just picked himself up a 360 Pro today. Plugging it in and getting Xbox Live online as we speak. Can’t wait to see the Gamertag.
A.J. comes from a long line of gaming. NES (my old one), SNES (my old one), PS2, Wii…and now…..that’s right, he didn’t go for the PS3. Why you ask? From the horses mouth, “360 has much more games”. I’d like to think that he’s really paying homage to his big brother and wants a way for us to stay connected, and the only way to do that is through Xbox Live and Rock Band…..so, that’s how I’m going to interpret his quote.
Well A.J., from the rest of the “Still Obsessed” readers, welcome. Glad to have you on board.
Now, I know you only have GTA IV, so have fun killing some peeps and what not. But let’s get you set up with some RB and make this happen!

UPDATE: Last nights jam session was a bust. Too many other priorities kept the attendance light. I’d like to put something on the calendar weekly, for about 45 minutes. Tuesday’s between 8:00 – 10:30 PM EST are best for me. Though if you need another night, let me know and I’ll see if we can adjust.
That said, I plan on a themed jam session. Future sessions will be classic rock, southern rock, punk, etc. So, let me know when you want it and I’ll post the schedule.
Tonight, for one night only! A kick ass heavy metal Rock Band Jam Session with the best of the best. Tonight’s set list includes DLC, so make sure you have it before getting online.
Time: Tuesday 8:00PM EST
Place: Xbox Live, gamertag AppleTrak (or my house)
Avenged Sevenfold – Afterlife
Disturbed – Inside the Fire
Disturbed – Indestructible
Disturbed – Perfect Insanity
Metallica – Blackened
Encore / Optional — if we have time
Metallica – …And Justice For All
Bang Camaro – Rock Rebellion
Blink-182 – All the Small Things
The All-American Rejects – Dirty Little Secret
Lynyrd Skynyrd – Gimme Three Steps
If you want to add/remove songs from the setlist, please comment now. I’ll modify the setlist before 4:30 PM today with any adjustments.
That’s it for now, see you online.

So, this just in….
Motley Crüe is on tour. Ok, that’s not the exciting part. According to Wiki, at one of the shows yesterday (denoted as Crue Fest) there was a big Rock Band competition and the winners walked away with an undisclosed DVD with new (I think) Rock Band content. Is it possible that Motley Crüe is going to release some of there classics on Rock Band? For me, that would be sweet. I’m not much of a fan of Saints of Los Angeles, but would be fired up to buy some Live Wire, Shout at the Devil, and Kickstart My Heart DLC.
Do you know anything about this? Would you buy any Crüe DLC if it were available?

It kills me to say this, but I will be honest. I am stuck! There are two songs remaining for me to finish on drums hard…Run to the Hills by Iron Maiden and We Won’t Get Fooled Again by The Who.
Up until now, I’ve been able to finish every song with little to no practice (Next to You by The Police and Foreplay/Long Time by Boston got me in practice mode). So, yes, I am tooting my own horn….I’ve got the drums of Rock Band down pretty well. But c’mon……Iron Maiden and The Who are ruining me! I’ve actually spent a few minutes practicing Iron Maiden and still struggle.
To make it worse, Run to the Hills changes the hi-hat/snare layout, they are on different pads. I’m sure its to compensate for the 1/16 hi-hat notes, but my brain is programmed the other way thanks to 66+ other songs.
I really just want to beat this thing and get my accomplishment, but NO! I’m going to have to spend my time learning these two songs. Anyway, that’s my vent for the day.
I got so frustrated that I started over on drums expert, to prove to myself that I don’t suck at this game.
Do you know anyone that has beaten these two on drums hard?

Ok, this week’s Xbox Live downloads are available. 3 songs by Avenged Sevenfold, 1 by The Offspring, and 1 by Crooked X. They are all fairly new songs, so none are immediately recognizable. At $2 a pop, I’m somewhat picky at how I spend my money.
After listening to Avenged Sevenfold “Afterlife” on Slacker Radio, I decided that 1) it’s a really good song; 2) it will be a challenging drum song on expert; 3) the guitar will be very tough in the solos and; 4) might be fun to sing. $2 spent. I was able to get through drums on expert first time, but I did redline 3 times. Still have some practice to perfect it. Guitar on hard…..I failed, but I will be the first to admit….I’m terrible on guitar.
I also downloaded an old song, Blink-182 “All the Small Things”. I haven’t played it yet, but think I should do fine. It was a song that I used to jam with SAYD a lot (Pabel should know this). So, if I can’t pull off expert, I should retire.
That’s all I bought this week, though may go back and get the other Avenged Sevenfold songs.
I hear from my friend (Rob, that’s you), that the Disturbed songs released on June 3 are very good and very tough on guitar. I’m thinking about picking them up, since they are a bargain at only $1 per song. Rob, do you have a favorite, or should I get all 3?
Other than DLC, I’m still practicing Foreplay/Long Time and all the Boston DLC when I can, on drums expert. There are still a handful of songs (Rush, Police) that I struggle on expert and haven’t spent much time on.
Some things I’d love to see in the future is Pantera, Dream Theater, and Linkin Park….none have been mentioned yet, but would buy up anything from those guys.
That’s it for now, see you online.

OK, so for you loyal readers…..not sure there are any, but anyway, here’s a new category for the ol’ blog. It’s the Xbox category. “What, what, what”, you say. “But this has always been my place to go to hear about Palm and Treo stuff.” Well my friend you are correct. Though remember that this site is about “my obsessions”, technical obsessions that is. For anyone who has talked with me in recent months, it’s all about Xbox 360 and more specific, Rock Band (thanks a lot Pabel).
Since I’ve been playing music well, forever, quickly adapted to the Rock Band stuff….although I never played Guitar Hero much. That might shock you gamers, but I’ve primarily done drums and vocals in real life. Thanks to the big additions in Rock Band, I’ve been pulled back in to gaming….after a 5 year hiatus (R.I.P. Sega Dreamcast).
Read my other entries for what’s up in my current obsessed world of Xbox 360 and Rock Band.
